How to join BES.

BES is actively recruiting volunteers.

There are a variety of positions available for both rescuers and support members. There is no current requirement of previous experience; the only requirements are:

* Be at least 18 years of age

* Have a clean criminal history and driving record

* Live or work in Boulder County

* Be willing to participate in BES activities, emergency and non-emergency calls, training, and assist with activities such as fund raising, vehicle and equipment maintenance, housekeeping, etc.

Once applications are submitted, an extensive background investigation will be conducted, followed by an oral board consisting of the BES Personnel Director, a member of the officer staff, and 2 rescuers. After that, applicants will be voted on by the general membership of BES for acceptance into the candidate class.

New members are expected to maintain a high level of attendance at meetings and training classes; we meet every Monday night and approximately two Saturday mornings a month.

If you have any other questions about the process, you can contact our personnel director, Darren Booth at personnel@bes-rescue.org

DOWNLOAD THE BES APPLICATION here.

Once you fill out the application, bring it by the station to give to our personnel director, Darren Booth. The best time to come by is during one of our Monday night trainings (All Mondays at 7:00 PM, except holidays and the month of December) as that will allow you to meet in person with the personnel director and you can get to know some of the rescuers as well.

We are looking for the following categories.

Rescuers

Rescuers will be trained in all areas of rescue that they choose (ranging from auto extrication to dive and swiftwater rescue to fire support and more), and most safety equipment will be provided. Rescuers will be expected to respond on calls to assist once they have received proper training and equipment.

Support

Support members play key roles in our organization, and the position allows volunteers to participate in BES without having to be exposed to the time commitment and stresses of rescue work. Support roles can include but are not limited to secretarial assistance, grant writing, fund raising, maintenance, and more.

Meetings and Trainings

If you would like to know more about BES before applying, feel free to stop by one of our trainings or meetings. We meet every Monday night at our headquarters at 3532 Diagonal Hwy. in Boulder at 7:00PM. We also hold trainings about every other Saturday. Our meetings and trainings are all open to the general public, so if you are interested in joining BES or want to find out more about who we are and what we do, feel free to stop by.
